Owusu Abeyie signs for Cardiff City

Cardiff City have completed the signing of Ghana international Quincy Owusu-Abeyie on loan.

The former Arsenal midfielder has joined from Russian side Spartak Moscow for the rest of the season.

Cardiff have an option to sign the 22-year-old permanently in the summer.

Chairman Peter Ridsdale says Owusu-Abeyie’s signing is not to possibly replace Joe Ledley, insisting: “I’ve made it clear Joe is going nowhere.”

Bluebirds manager Dave Jones says Owusu-Abeyie has taken something of gamble by switching from being on loan at Birmingham from Spartak Moscow to to linking up with the Bluebirds.

The Russian club are European regulars and Jones said: “Once we found out Birmingham weren’t going to take him for the rest of the season, we worked really hard to try and get him.

And with this boy he’s taken a massive gamble coming to us. There are things that he’s done which you don’t normally come across in a player.

“He wants to prove his worth at this football club and show everybody that he’s still capable of playing here rather than going back to Spartak.

“We can give him that stage. He’s got to deliver the goods and hopefully he will do.”
